The Petey Greene Program’s work with CTG has allowed us to fix small but nagging issues in our Salesforce setup, as well as build more complex solutions that meet our specific needs. They are versed not only in the technical aspects of Salesforce but are also familiar with the realities of a non-profit organization like ours, and are conscious of the people piece – being willing to strategize about building a form or object that will meet our needs, but then also thinking about how to introduce that new element to staff in a way that makes for successful rollout and adoption. CTG’s support of the PGP has been critical as we work towards our organization’s three-year strategic plan, and we look forward to continuing that work together!

The Petey Greene Program

Reimagining the Criminal Justice System w/ CTG Managed Services

The Petey Greene Program (PGP) supports the academic goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through high-quality volunteer tutoring programs, while educating volunteers on the injustice manifest in our carceral system and encouraging them to engage in justice-oriented activism to reimagine the criminal legal system. The PGP believes that everyone deserves a chance, that we cannot discount anyone, and that we are responsible for each other. That is why they work to ensure that all formerly and currently incarcerated people have access to high-quality education. Through partnerships with colleges, universities, and community volunteers, they offer high-quality tutoring in correctional institutions and reentry settings in eight states and the District of Columbia.

Purpose

The Petey Green Program uses Salesforce to track their mission-critical work with volunteers, including applications, training, scheduling, and clearance. Over the course of their time on the system, they have accumulated technical debt and were looking for a long-term partner who would understand their mission and goals and help incrementally clean up their system, implement new tools and enhance their ways of engaging with volunteers.

Ongoing Partnership

Craftsman’s Managed Services team engaged with PGP in January 2021. Their dedicated Client Success Manager met with PGP’s key stakeholders to understand current processes and desired workflows. Working from an Annual Plan, they first tackled PGP’s accumulated technical debt, replacing legacy code-based solutions to declarative, client-manageable tools. From there, Craftsman has worked with PGP to tackle enhancements large and small, including:

  • Creating a volunteer onboarding process that allows incoming volunteers to sign up for and track all required training for their program.

  • Updating their event attendance tracking process using screen flows to increase flexibility and reliability of data entry.

  • Building a reimbursement tracking system that connects with existing data.

  • Designing a new process to manage facility clearances for each volunteer at their desired site, enabling volunteers to update their progress and status, and leveraging lightning page layouts and automated reporting to inform staff as clearances expire and need to be renewed.

Tools + Technology

The Petey Greene Program uses the Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), Volunteers for Salesforce, and Form Assembly to power application, training, and reporting processes.
