The Salesforce Summer ’19 Release is scheduled for June 14-15 (the Sandbox preview window began on May 3). This is the second of three releases in 2019 and will bring new and enhanced features to users.
Here is what you need to know:
| Release Topic | Notes |
| Browser Support | Internet Explorer (IE) 11, Safari 12 and the latest Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Chrome will continue to be supported for Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.
If Lightning users opted in for the Extended Support of IE 11, they must note it will be retired in Summer 2020. Craftsman recommends switching from IE to another browser as soon as possible, unless an organization has specific circumstances that require IE. If you are unsure of your organization’s situation, contact our Managed Services Team. |
| Lightning Experience Transition Assistance | Starting in Winter ’20 Salesforce will enable Lightning Experience for all users on a rolling basis. Users can continue to work in Salesforce Classic after Lightning Experience is turned on.
The Lightning Experience Transition Assistant provides guidance on key activities to facilitate the transition. |
| External Org-Wide Defaults in Orgs with Communities or Portals | Enabled in the previous Spring ’19 Release, this update is now enforced in the Summer ’19 Release. The update enables users to set more restrictive levels of access for external users instead of giving internal and external users the same default access. |
| Chat + Messaging | Embed the instant web chat functionality on your website. Messages are delivered through Salesforce so that users can handle cases and chats side-by-side without leaving the platform. |
| Merge Cases | Users can merge up to three cases into one to avoid duplicates. If different information is associated with each case, the option to choose one will be given. |
| Embedded Flows | Organizations can embed flows on their website that create a self-service functionality where constituents complete common tasks (e.g. reporting an issue or indicating interest in a product or service). The flow can automatically create Salesforce records on the back end – alleviating manual entry by staff. |
| Gmail Integration Enhancements | Users can turn on ‘Log Emails Faster’ available in read mode. The email no longer needs to be opened and individually logged. |
| Row Level Formulas in Reports (Beta) | Easily find specific data in report results with row-level formulas that can be calculated for every record. For example, you can create a row-level formula for Time to Close by subtracting the creation date from the close date. A column will be added with this value heading and each record will be given a value.
This feature is available in Lightning only. To enable, navigate to Reports and Dashboards and select ‘Enable Row-Level Formulas’. |
| Streamline External User Creation | Create external users directly on a contact’s detail page instead of having to navigate to Salesforce Setup. This feature is available for Community users with partner licenses, the ‘Manage External Users’ or ‘Manage Customer Users’ preference, and system admin. |
