Salesforce Winter ’20 Release Preview

The Salesforce Winter ‘20 Release will go live in October 2019. The release will begin the Lightning Experience rollout to all organizations, which features a more intuitive interface designed to enhance the user experience.

Administrators and users are encouraged to test and become familiar with Lightning Experience during the sandbox preview window beginning September 6, 2019. During this time, users can test the new Winter ‘20 features:

Release Topic Notes
Lightning Experience Rollout Those with the ‘Lightning Experience User’ permission enabled will automatically have Lightning Experience set as their default.

Users can switch to the new interface at any time by clicking the ‘Switch to Lightning Experience’ link at the top of the screen. To switch back to Classic click the icon on the top right corner of the screen and select ‘Switch to Salesforce Classic’ under the ‘Options’ menu.

Note: The Lightning Experience rollout has been delayed until January 2020. For more information visit the Lightning Experience Critical Update FAQ.

Supported Browsers Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is no longer supported by Lightning Experience. Although Salesforce Classic is, Lightning Experience-only users working in IE11 will not be able to switch to Classic.

Note: There is an exception for Lightning users who opted in to the Extended Support of IE11. They will have access until December 31, 2020.

The latest versions of Edge, Chrome and Firefox are supported by Classic and Lightning. Safari version 12.x is also supported.

New Salesforce Mobile App Beginning mid-October Lightning Experience will be mobile optimized. Admins will have the ability to customize the mobile experience for their users.
Row-level formulas Row-level formulas were a beta feature in the Summer ‘19 Release. They are available in Lightning and can be used to evaluate each record in a report. Users have the ability to filter and group report data by row-level formula.

Because row-level formulas are now generally available an administrator is no longer required to enable the feature.

Lightning Communities Communities must be updated to the latest template to leverage new features. Lightning Communities allow for customizable page layouts including adjustable columns and the ability to change background images and colors. A full list of new and updated features on Lightning Communities is available here.
Community Guest User Access When ‘Secure Guest User Record Access’ is enabled, org-wide security defaults are set to ‘Private’ for all objects. This will ensure that unauthenticated guest users do not have access to data in your org.

Admins have the ability to automatically assign records created by guests to a default owner. This is a security best practice, and is strongly recommended. Any change in ownership should be tested in a sandbox environment as it will affect guest users’ access to records.
